HaitianvaultTravel these days are very stressful when it comes to fly in winter and spring seasons.
You plan ahead of your vacation to go out of state or other countries, but one thing for sure you can’t control is the flight delay or cancel. You might end up sleeping at the airport without food. Sometimes you cannot fly home because of the bad weather or mechanical problem.

When that happens to you, don’t panic. If they don’t provide any vouchers for food/hotel, don’t be afraid to use your own money to buy food at the airport because you have to survive the night anyway, and sleep at the airport is the best way to go to catch the next morning flight on time. Personally I have no problem to sleep at the airport floor.

After your nightmare is over and you got home, the next day, go to Airline Company website and look for refunds and you’ll see in email contact form. To contact them you will need your ticket#, your flight#, date and a brief explanation about your problem. Explain your itinerary precisely as it happened to you briefly, and they would email you back telling you they’re going to investigate. Eventually after 3 or 5 days they will send you a voucher worth $250. You can use it to your next travel within a year or give it to your family/friends.
Never got upset when a flight had trouble, use your own money and you will get it back later on.

Haiti airportA few years ago I went to Haiti, on my way back to US from Port-au-Prince; the flight was cancel due to the bad weather in the east coast. I don’t have money to go back to the Hotel; they distributed a few vouchers of $10 for food, there were people everywhere, it’s like a stampede, I didn’t even leave my chair where I sat. I used my last few bucks to buy food. On the next flight they booked me to Miami where I spend the night on the airport floor waiting for the next morning East Coast flight.

I did the same thing above when I got home the morning after.
Airlines Company care when you contact/email them.

Recently I noticed a bunch of my Haitian community post daily quotes on Facebook but have no idea where they got them from, or if those quotes were theirs.

In college, you have to do papers, normally between 5-25 pages. The prof. never said you have to come up with your own idea but instead take people’s ideas and analyze them or what you think about…

Your paper could sound good but you end up getting an “F” grade. Why? Because you did not acknowledge the person who said it, even one line on your paper could cost you dearly a poor grade, if it wasn’t yours and not mention the name.

For example: I post a quote recently on facebook which is “If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude… Maya Angelou”

If you take Maya Angelou name out, it’s becoming totally mine. People knew that’s not my quote. Don’t do that.

I would like to see my Haitian people on facebook change the way the post statement. Give credit to whom credit is due, meaning the acknowledgment should be to the person who deserves it.

One more thing though, If you cannot find the author’s name you can write below the quote “unknown

HaitianvaultI know some people are afraid to go to Haiti in vacation but I’m telling you how Haiti is the best place to go and return safely to your family.

- If you have a family members or a good friend there, chance are things are already made easy for you. however, be careful.

1) Before buying your ticket, arrange for the place you will stay there. You can do it online or call any hotels there to know the daily price or possibly make a reservation. Or have some of your family members or a good friend do it for you.

2) Do not stay in friend’s house or your old neighborhood, but you can visit them later.
A jealous old friend or even family members can arrange a coup (kidnapping) against you. Hotel is the best place to be in, which provide security, electricity, Air conditioner, refrigerator and pool etc… 24/7. The cheapest hotel I know in Haiti is about $40 US/day that provided all of the above except for refrigerator in your room, but you can use one in the kitchen area. (The highest ones $65, $85, $200/day). I always pick the cheapest one.

3) Have someone to pick you up at the airport, however, be careful who you’re going to choose from. That’s the riskiest part, the day you arrive at the airport. If you know that person had any bad feelings against you before don’t trust him/her. I would rather call a one time friend to pick me up than a suspected so-called good friend.
The reason is, money could be a motive behind him/her. In the past if they have solicited you for money and you could not fulfill their obligations that should be an indication to be careful.

4) The day of the arrival in Haiti should be kept secret until you arrived there. Don’t let anybody knows you’re going to travel there. I know you would be excited but make the news private only between your inner circle and the person who’s going to pick you up at the airport.

5) I know people want to show off for what they have or accomplished. Don’t do it there. Haiti is the tropical country, dress like typical Haitians, and for example short pants, short jeans, short T-shirt, not so fancy sneakers. The important things though not to forget “DO NOT WEAR JEWELRY, BLING BLING, and FANCY BRACELET OR WATCH” avoid strong perfume.
In general dress like not so Diaspora.

6) Do not rent any vehicle at the rental location. Doing so may bring kidnappers’ attention to you. Don’t drive yourself. Please use public transportation wherever you go (Country side or visit a friend etc…) you can use a taxi moto (motorcycle) for quick transportation. Have someone you really trust or a stranger that you find at the hotel accompany you all the time wherever you want to go (beaches, country side, historic places etc…) all of these are not very expensive in Haiti.

7) Make sure you buy a round trip airline ticket, and place your all important papers in a safe area in the hotel, usually each rooms have a safe mounted in the wall so you could put your passport, money and important information in there. Do not carry a lot of cash with you. Do not carry your driver license in your wallet leave it in your safe because you have the safe key with you all the time.

8) I went in the most dangerous area in cite soleil, Port-au-Prince, using public transit not even notice or scare. I enjoyed going to the beaches almost every day using again public transportation. Don’t smell like a Diaspora, you go there to have a good time and possibly helped out.

9) On the returning day, let your friend call a taxi or Tap Tap (a customized pickup car build by Haitian) only you and your friend will be on that taxi or Tap Tap for a low price.
Do not promise anything to friends or people you met there, you won’t be able to keep it after returning. You will need the same place again next year. Tell them the truth even if they don’t believe it.

10) I would say Haiti is the cheapest country for vacation. Do you know $30 US money at the 5 stars supermarket in Haiti can give you enough food for a week? Here in the United States I hold in one hand stuff that I bought for $50.
Even after the earthquake Haiti is the number one place for vacation.

* I want to share this experience with you because I follow those guidelines each time I went to Haiti and I don’t even have any relatives there. Haiti is the best place for vacation if you look like them.

Haitianvault always make things simple (KISS) for regular web users.

Website: A website could have 1 or more web pages. All together call website (Ex. Home page, Contact page, About Us page, Testimonials page, etc…) but you have only 1 address to enter the site. It’s like you have one phone # in your house and distribute 3 or 4 extensions all over. (Kitchen, Living room, Bedroom etc…)

Blog: If you have something in your mind very often to tell about, say it through blog. People read and find it interested, they respond to your content. But they cannot post their own topic, only they can comment to your subject.

Forum: forum is like a blog, but it’s more interactive. Not only you can response to people topic, you can post your own subject. Every body can post any topic. You can see, blog allows people to comment only on topic, however, Forum is different, you can not only comment, but post your own idea (headline).

Guestbook: by definition you can sense what it means. People come in to your website and find it very attractive or ugly. They leave you their 2 cents.

Beloved Comedic Actor Johnny Fleurinord well-known as Tonton Nord passed away this morning Thursday July 28, 2011 in a hospital in Gonaives, Haiti from “complications due to Kidney disease,”. He was 36.

Tonton Nord’s career started in 2000 when he called a radio station and began to speak like an old man. “Actually it was my grandfather I was portraying”, he told Belfim. He told a lot of jokes on the air, then hung up the phone. So many people loved the old-man’s voice that the director of the radio station offered him free air-time for his own comedy show.

Tonton Nord movie credits include: Oh Dieu Protege Mon Mariage (2010), Zafe Pa Nou (2009), Ti Fi Paste-a 3 (2009), Bwe Tafya Respeke Boutey (2008), Jan-w wel la (2008), Oasis (2008), Xtreme Blue (2008), Move Vwazen (2007), Ti Fi Paste-a 2 (2007), Pa Fye Lom (2006), Ti Fi Paste-a (2006).
